Poets, entangled

"What is it my dear?"

"Ah, how can we bear it?"

"Bear what?"

"This. For so short a time. How can we sleep this time away?"

"We can be quiet together, and pretend - since it is only the beginning - that we have all the time in the world."

"And every day we shall have less. And then none."

"Would you rather, therefore, have had nothing at all?"

"No. This is where I have always been coming to. Since my time began. And when I go away from here, this will be the mid-point, to which everything ran, before, and from which everything will run. But now, my love, we are here, we are now, and those other times are running elsewhere."

In an octopus garden near a cave

Reasons to love Ringo Starr
even more so than John, Paulie & George

1. He's one of the reasons why The Beatles lasted as long as they did.

2. His dance moves in 'A Hard Day's Night'

3. So incredibly goofy and lovable. Ginormous schnozzle and all.

4. He played a right-hand kit his whole life despite being left-handed, and still managed to be one of the most revolutionary drummers of all time (REVOLUTIONARY, not great.)

5. He wrote Octopus Garden.

I sang Yellow Submarine for the most of the morning and I felt that I owed Mr. Starr something for lending his marvelous vocals to one of the most famous Beatles' tracks around. And here it is!

Bury this deep in your chest

Listening to Andrew Bird's voice and his lilting melodies always give me a warm feeling inside, especially at 3am in the night. It curls around me like a cat; sometimes, all I want is to burrow deep and sleep in it and never wake up.

Ready to fly, you and I

Wow. Totally underestimated Sara's vocals and was pleasantly surprised with her concert at the Esplanade! I was actually reluctant to go (because we procrastinated and ended up with nosebleed seats, and also because it has been a very long time since I considered myself a Bareilles fan) but thought, 'eh, a gig's still a gig.' I'm so very glad I went because it turned out to be a pretty brilliant show.

Amazing vocals, interactive and hilarious, with one of the tightest backing bands I've seen. Not to mention, a pretty good opening act! It's not easy to find a performer who makes every member of a nearly 2000-strong audience feel that they're in a small and intimate show. She's not Feist, Laura Marling or Alison Sudol; but she comes pretty close to the top of my list. A convert for sure!!!

Crafts of a clumsy kind

It was Mother's Day on Sunday and also my mom's birthday a little less than an hour ago. I don't really enjoy shopping for gifts (even on trips abroad, I rarely get souvenirs for others unless I'm reminded to) partly because it's a chore, but mostly because I'd like to believe that people do appreciate little D.I.Y presents now and then.

So, armed with a new set of acrylic paints and a stack of cards, I set about to creating the ultimate present for aunties: THE COUPON BOOKLET. It is a simple, albeit clumsily put together, lump-sum of pages. Mom, however, seemed to like it tremendously! :) I think that sometimes, all it takes is a ten-song mixed CD or a homemade bed-in-breakfast to show your appreciation for someone else. Beats the 10-carat jewels anyday!

Earlier today we had a Japanese birthday lunch of beef sukiyaki and spicy sashimi, and tempura ice-cream for dessert. We talked and laughed and my dad gave my mom flowers. It was all-in-all, a pretty lovely day.

I love my mom! And I hope she had a really good birthday!

Of Princes & Princesses

People think it's a fuss, but I love British royalty. From the elegant & ethereal Princess Di, right down to the tip of Queen Elizabeth's 85-year-old nose. The royal wedding was magnificent! Oh grumpy girl and future heart-breaker page boy!

One more Prince up for grabs. And it's the hotter, non-balding one.

Oh Prince Harry!

Into the night

It must be written that the Moon
elbowed the stars and said
Let's do our best to make it hard for them

The weight of a mountain
The skin on your knees
Climbing back to me

They turned our skeletons to wood
and scattered matches underfoot
We must walk carefully these days

The circles darken round' our eyes
and yet our bodies when combined
They gleam like diamonds in a cave

Heloise gave her whole heart to Pete
Now eternally sleeps by his side
Oh, go ahead fate,
Oh give us your best
What is worth living for is worth a fight
Into the Night
