The season of new year equates very simple to a few things; for me that is. Long-lost cousins bicycling right out from mainland china, one too many steamboats, the art of small talk=death conversations and innocent fifteen year olds thrashed together into one big, cheenany lumpsump.

There's the tradition of mandarin oranges. While we willingly cart these soft citrus fruits from house to house in tiny paper bags, we all know that the whole exchanging business doesnt do anyone any good. Frankly, i think what we're all trying to do is to get rid of the damned fruits so that we don't need to take it home and let it rot for fifteen days before throwing it out, like every other year. So the well known strategy is to dump whatever you have onto the last house you go to, when your host is somewhere else preparing ba qua or something.

And the small talk. Meeting your third uncle who you've never seen in your life is bound to end up in some awkward silence. When all available conversation topics have been seemingly exhausted by both parties[what school, o-levels!, JC or Poly, CCA? etc etc], there is a small time lapse wherein each of us struggle with some excuse to slip away from that awkward pocket of air. 'Oh, i need to use the toilet', has always been the common one, but unfortunately you can only use it once per visit. therefore, it is advisible to always have an annoying younger cousin who drags you to do something else. On cue, of course.

Lastly, chinese new year is also the time wherein nosy mother-in-laws and superstitious family elders get to probe into the younger generations private matters and occasionally, critisize the poor subject. Who has been divorced lately, who has gotten a new boyfriend/girlfriend, who recently put on A FRIGGIN' metal brace on her teeth just this year. It somehow all ends up in blushes of embarrasment, a slight glance of disapproval from onlookers, and a sudden conversation diversion.

Of course there are the few good things about Chinese New Year that manage to outshine the other trivalties. No doubt, the good food and the moolah harvest that comes once a year is indeed refreshing. and perhaps meeting those long-lost cousins and relatives is good as well. I suppose that is why, above all, CNY does usher in that festive spirit that makes you feel better somehow right? and the long weekend.

A picture speaks a thousand words. XD

WTH.

The well-learned and the innocent.
Woah woah. chill cowfu.
The famous chef. My grandma XD shocked at the sight of my camera.
AH. the light that reflects of the bald. WAHAH.
This year, as every year,Grandma invites a lion/dragon dance troupe to perform at her house. It was interesting and very noisy. The indian security guard actually stopped by to complain but ended up watching the act and talking to my father.

It spit out oranges. haha.
Cool grandmas in the house, yo!

And you thought my hair was long...?

That's my aunt who plays the drums XD she's supposedly very good. and her new fiancee, Eric.

who are these people? as i said before, we tans breed like guinea pigs. Its tough keeping track of
your hundreds of relatives.

Keisha, my other aunt. By some weird generation mutation, she is only one year older than me. She comes from the heart of god church! And has started a NY gen in her school. its nice to be able to talk to someone about it. fooling around with my ovation hahaaa

Uncle Richard. The eternal skeptic with a potbelly.

Ah-san jie jie. No she's not pregnant, its just a combination of a sudden breeze, my horrible photography skills and the dress shape itself.

Ah yi the rich lawyer gets a chance at motherhood.

highlight of the evening. Taking part in the family blackjack game. Full of lean-mean gambling machines. after a decade of hankering at the table, was finally allowed to play with money more than a dollar. Won twelve back in the end, so i suppose it is all beginner's luck.

For every extended family, there is bound to be a 'dao' baby/toddler. And here she is[god knows whats her name.]

His name is 'Xiao ji'. i literally gulfed at the literal translation.
So that is about it.

CNY celebrations are nothing less than expected off, the same for the past sixteen years.
And now that topshop jacket. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA. Jacket shopping with Jen and the rest of the renegades as taka later XD im excited.

Note to self

1. DO TEE SHIRT FOR GLADYS. research for better fabric markers.
2. Return two books to tsin ning on monday -_-"
3. A MATH! A MATH!
4. Get new electric guitar strings by next week.

I really would like to go for a sleepover. *muses. LIZZEH!!

La Cordo d'oro was a fairly enjoyable anime, but it could have used a little more spice in its shoujo storyline, if you get what i mean. Classical music animes are always good.

Music practise! Lizzeh i'll be missing the CNY family gathering this year, sorry! would have really liked to hang out with you tho haha. march hols, si?
