Quotes from the Lesser-Known: Part 2

'What inspired you to get into theatre?'
'My friend pressured me into auditioning for the school play. I was sick and unwilling to fight so I did and I managed to score one of the lead roles. Prior to that I was simply happy being an audience member captivated by what took place onstage.  But when I realized I could be a part of that experience as well and present truthfully to people that which isn't true, I fell in love with it. I know I sound like a sociopathic liar but I'm not, honest. Life is about telling stories, and telling them well.'
'Was there a particular pivotal moment, or experience?'
'One life-changing experience was when I went to watch a tiny production of Oliver Twist. Cast of 5 and only 2 major props which doubled as a boat, door, coffin, gallows, Fagin's underground shithole for runaways and other assorted naughty children, etc. Every single one of the songs were sung in 5-part harmony and it was fantastic. I think I was 14 when I watched it. I stayed back to congratulate Fagin and when I saw him up close, my mind was blown to see how a skinny, 6-foot-tall man could have been so many things on that stage. I think I still have that ticket with me.'

Something Good Can Work

Hope for the Hopeless Musical 2011 finally came to an end (sometime last week, but I'm lazy like that) & so did my internship at Oops Asia. There's so much to say; how much I've learned and grown, about the people I've met & friendships made.

Though it was not always easy, I thank the ridiculously-efficient crew, a cooperative & terribly talented cast, Uncle Chris for giving me this opportunity to work and not bum around, my amazing coworkers for giving me lots of laughs, and most importantly, God. Thank you for guiding me through it all, there is nothing I can do without you.

I may be moving on (in the general direction of Western Europe, but that is a different subject altogether) to school and other things, but these six months have been brilliant & remembered fondly :)

As a bonus, I also got a mini hair and face make over by two talented colleagues/friends/bored make up artists. Everyone wants to looks different and nice once in a while... No but seriously, those girls are ace.

Mehhehhehehh.

Oh and church camp in a couple of hours time!

Soliloquy

'To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,

And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep,

No more; and by a sleep to say we end

The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks

That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep;

To sleep, perchance to dream – ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,

When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,

Must give us pause – there's the respect

That makes calamity of so long life.'

A box of matchsticks, an Ipod, and twelve hours in a car.

KL 2010! A short shopping vacation with the family which was pretty snazzy. Though the disastrous trip there with multiple jams only jolted mom's nerves and made all of us go nearly ballisticimus. Have a low tolerance for confined spaces and Deep Purple blasting from the car radio! But all in all, it was a great time of bonding, scoffing food and shopping.

Spend the last few days of 2010 reading lots of Chuck Palahniuk novels at home and watching Big Bang Theory (so fricking brilliant) instead of partying. 2011 beckons new resolutions, delving into the working world headfirst, and hopefully more maturity!

Today was my first day at work and I did three useful things;

1) Open up the company's letterbox to get mail
2) Set up my new work email account
3) Pasted price tag stickers on CDs

The other 5 or 6 hours were spent playing with a colleague's adorable son, checking facebook and hanging around the studio whilst playing guitar. Which is no less than what I do at home. Swine is I!

I also used my first pay envelope to buy Rocky Horror Show floor seats for next Friday. Stoked to do the time warp wheeheehee. Hopefully, Hossan Leong would not ruin the show by attempting to infuse some, um, 'Asian flava' into Richard O'Brien's classic rock n' roll musical.

Happy New Year everybody!

I sold flowers; I didn't sell myself.

'I know your head aches, I know you're tired, I know your nerves are as raw as meat in a butcher's window. But think what you're trying to accomplish. Think what you're dealing with. The majesty and grandeur of the English language, it's the greatest possession we have. The noblest thoughts that ever flowed through the hearts of men are contained in its extraordinary, imaginative, and musical mixtures of sounds. And that's what you've set yourself out to conquer Eliza. And conquer it you will.'

Professor Henry Higgins
in My Fair Lady
Played by Rex Harrison

I watched this three-hour musical again after doing an extract from Pygmalion (Bernard Shaw, 1939) during Literature enrichment a couple of days back. It must prove to be somehow useful for ELL... I hope. No matter, we all need our breaks, don't we? After all, it was Eliza Doolittle who first declared that she 'could have danced all night'!

(then again, she also said 'Come on, Dover, move yer bloomin' arse!' This could be a nudge from the Great Audrey herself for me to start mugging. Intensely.)

Ippudo yesterday with obscene gang was delish :) And also the record-spam, where Clare and I chanced upon a Fleet Foxes EP for only a tenner! It was rather exhilarating. So ends my 3am rant.

Goodnight everyone, continue to study hard!

Isn't life grand?

And now our bodies are the guilty ones

(if you'd only) dream a little dream of me

I remember getting one of these from my penpal (by snail mail, mind you, all the way from Europe) years ago. Now, I still have no inkling of what it's truly for; give you pleasant dreams, take away the nightmares, or simply for you to remember the subconscious drifting? You tell me.

Anyway, found some rather lovely quote online by D.H Lawrence. Finally something he says that makes sense to me!

Oops, which reminds me. Lit essay which was due last week and not yet handed up. uh-oh. Lit tutorials are getting incredibly dull.

Ms Chua: Class, am I going too fast?
Val(whispers): No, she's going too boring

on the other hand, CHICAGO was wicked. What can I say, I love cabaret. Full update next time! For now, it's time to surf into dreams :)

Beautiful Mess

Just when I was about to figure life out,
He came to poison my dreams,
The stranger clad in romance.
Now I'm stuck.

I'm slipping between the cracks here,
tangled up in lines.

Well to tell the truth.
Till you came along,
I had a perfectly ordinary life.

There are no words to describe how much I abhor my absolutely crap-CCA and its moronic leaders. No wait, there are.

Hello, is it your fault that your vice-head/wife Clara, only told me I had to write the article on Saturday? I think it's pretty darn swell enough that I managed to scrape together a half-page (small-font, mind you) of decently-written work yesterday night after I came home from Rockefella practise at nine o' clock. The email, dripping with wannabe-sarcasm was totally uncalled for.

Next time please forward your article to Eeban instead of me.

I have done it for you this time, but don't do it again.

Oh yar, it would be nice to have the article in on Sunday if you told me it would be in on Sunday'

Apparently, some people find it hard to differentiate the phrases 'I'll try to get it done over the weekend' from 'I'll get it done by Sunday'.

Not to say, it was unnecessary to yell at Clare. The only dudes that yell at girls when it's not their fault are douche bags who feel that they need to exercise the male ego/chauvinist-pig complex to exude manliness.

Well, not working, Ian.

Apologies for that rant, but Clare a.k.a fellow editorial-hater, doesn't have her phone and is thus not replying my texts. Sigh.

On a lighter note, here's some shots from Lit Night. Which we totally owned, btw.

aWe won for costumes and second for exhibition! Wicked stuff. Not bad for two days work, I reckon :)

Next up, Rockefella. Yesterday's rehearsal was beyond bad, let's hope tomorrow's one works out.

As for common tests, I believe the right word here is 'screwed'. Doomed. Shish Kebab.

Oh.

Na na na na na na na naaaa!

This is awesomeness in the form of a chart.

So, today was nice but not so nice.

I had no idea my mom, aunty anna, vanessa and mel (well actually i knew she was) were so bitchygossipy!

I suddenly feel like watching a musical, but then again I always feel like watching musicals. 'Chicago' is finally finally coming to singapore thise year AND LIZZEH IF WE DO NOT GET OUR STUDENT PRICED TICKETS SOON WE WILL REGRET IT LIKE HOW WE REGRETTED YYYs D: and here's to 'Wicked' coming our way. Soon.

Currently plugged into Gallows' 'Grey Britain' record and Modest Mouse' 'No One's first & You're Next'! I'm sorry but I have a soft spot for brilliant brit bands.

So 'night! Have a good one :)

Dear prudence, won't you come out to play? (in the yellow submarine?)

Don't cry because its over,
smile because it happened.
Under the covers we had magic,
going on.

So don't be sad that i'm gone,
someone will love you soon.
Beneath the stars,
remember me

QUESTION.

if holidays started last saturday, then why did we have school yesterday? It didn't help that kaizhen made an (honest) mistake by telling me math was at eight instead of ten. And when you live one and a half hours away from school, it can be SUCH a trial.

Not-so-top-girls! We still have fun, no?

Sushi at wheelock. Funny story;

*phone conversation with Tiara
Tiara: I can't find it! There's sushi in Wheelock meh! Me: YEAH. we are standing outside now. Tiara: oh whoops I'm at WIsma Atria.

Mandy mooose and her fishnet stocking and everyone looking at her as we walked down orchard road. Plus stalking some not-so-hot-people!

Yiwen is our sole connection between hi-chews and arrogant fellows, really.

awww shooo sweet.

HH and Nick GlasCOW being total goosegogs here. still, rose among the thorns right?

Well all in all as i have said, it was a horrible play. Tiara and i were just going like 'whaaa...' throughout the entire show, and judging by the sounds of the theatre, everyone felt pretty much the same way. Some dude came out to yell at all of us during intermission for being so noisy HAAA. that was probably the highlight of the show.

Catched up on a number of movies this week. Ramen Girl was bollocks, Night at the Musuem was a-okay and Trainspotting was pretty brilliant. Also, finally watched 'Across the Universe' starring Rachel Evan Wood and Jim Sturgess. I remember Sarah G harping about how wonderful the show is and none of us listened to her as always, and jennifer wanting to watch it because of all the Beatles songs.

So at the recent late-night trips to video-ezy with clauds and pat, it was going on offer and i decided to get it for fun. Best investment of the year, really! Everyone should watch it. Damn it, All you need is love is in my head.

I have an ant-infestation in my room. Eeek.

aaaand. packing is a pain in the behind.

Living life in technicolour

In tribute to Bill for getting his sixth call from the neighbours and police to tone it down. Miss that chap.

(CSE, you can suck it.)

Watched one of the worst literature plays in the history of the world. Everyone looked really fabulous and i managed to make it through the play without falling asleep. Late-night gossips (and secret-spilling) and a brilliant aftershow at midnight with Caleb and the rest, those guys sure know how to party.

Somewhere in Sentosa a certain hi-chew is grooving out in a tight yellow shirt(le sigh! Yiwen didn't take pictures and has therefore failed as a hired stalker), and Clauds is probably lying prostrate on the floor in her own vomit. and guess who will be called at 5am? I hate being the one to solve problems!

Snapshots out tomorrow!

Sunday, August 03, 2008

Good Evening miss,

I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures.

Weekends come and go waay too fast, but then monday feels like an eternity. I read somewhere that there is only 24 days to prelims. I think i lost my sense of anxiety, someone find it for me please.

I studied with stacey and Prett-ay patti twice this week and i cannot remember what i did. Also, Mel and Kel's company prove too distracting to do anything at all, we just end up laughing like coots and doing the weirdest things.

Yesterday has classes and then went to GM for drama practice for the CHRISTMAS skit. Woah, 'kiasu' has found a whole new level. But it was so vair funny. We are doing that lifehouse thing again, which was the cause of me and my gargutan mouth. So thus i ended up in the cast as 'Drunk Girl'. LOVELY.

But luki as jesus is like about ten times funnier muahahahahahaaaaaaa. When he was um, creating the world and also humans, he almost fell over his own invisible trees. Ah what a sight.

I think jie shawn got uber frustrated with us[mel kelvin and moi] when we started to the that eygptian/tribal hand gestures thingy instead of being 'graceful and expressive' like how Ben was. Poo-ey, can't hurt to have some fun right? Oh it was the absolute picture of the word hilarious. I was the worst.

JS: How difficult is it to wave your arms a bit in a flow-ey way? Stacy Mel and Kelvin, come on! Look at ben!
Mel: Like this? * starts to the 70s bunny hop.
JS: NO no! graceful! graceful!
Kelvin: oh oh, look at me! *does the scissors-arms movement thingy
JS: OMG. stacy, do you have any joints at all? why so stiff??!

tres amusant.

Went to borders to. IT WILL REMAIN A SECRET.
Had a study session. While the rest went for FOP, how great is that.
It was quite productive at the airport, felt quite sleepy. I think i make quite a brilliant SS teacher, Shanna should hire me for good XD

Church in the morning.
Aunty Yu ming is at singfest now rocking out to the sounds of Panic at the Disco and Jamie Scott and the town. I am at home watching a chick flick while a forty-something year old woman from church headbangs with the coolest bands[and maybe Masura? EEEKS. better becareful with what i say, school's eyes are everywhere.] in her high heels and costume jewelry.

How sad and pathetic is that?

Very very, is the answer.

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Oh lila

She's a wave and she's breaking,
She's a problem to solve,
and in the circle she's making
I will always revolve

And on her sight
These eyes depend
Invisible and Indivisible

That fire you ignited
Good, bad and undecided
Burns when I stand beside it
Your light is ultraviolet

Visions so insane
Traveling raveling through my brain
Cold when I am denied it
Your light is ultraviolet
Ultraviolet

Ultraviolet by the Stiff Dylans
_____________________________________________________

I will go spasmatic simply thinking about aaron johnson. I don't think i've ever been that hyped up over SOME movie[especially some stereotyped 'chick' flick] ever but this one is going to be terrific. I can tell because only the HOTTEST GUY IN THE WORLD IS INNIT.

WAHOOZABLE.

Today was pretty slack. Assembly was the usual bustle. I can't stick our new vice though[not as bad as slim, but STILL.]. She talks to us like six year olds. A typical addressing of the school
starts with

'GIRLS.... what do you have to bring tumorruw????
*silence
'Let me give you a hint gers[girls. abdominable i say.]. It's temperature taking tumurrow right? so what do you gers haf to bring???
*silence. More acid-filled stares from student population.
'Gers... answer me.... gers...'

Good grief.
What does she expect, a chorus of angels voices echoing around the parade square, saying 'THERMOMETER'? Obviously, this is not the way to earn anyone's liking around. Ms Martens got our attention by respecting us as proper grown-up human beings instead of toddlers, and now we listen to her every word. Doubt anyone can do the same, tho.

EL lessons are always fun with fabeha around, then comes science/math and she gets all glacial and serious. But no matter, conversations are funny anyway. So we were amiably DISCUSSING, or in ms KK's case, scolding us for our limited vocabulary, about the grand canyon and such.

Ms Kang: GIRLS... what do you use to describe the grand canyon???
Random people say: eh spectacular... awesome... majestical... incredible...
Ms Kang: NO NO! fine, okay maybe in incredible. But incredibly what girls?? something else must be added to it to make it adequate!
Random People: awesome? great?
Ms kang: NO!
fabeha: Oh my god what does she want from us?
Ms Kang: think girls think!
Fabeha: Incredibly DEEP! that's what it is.

And so forth.
Very boring.

Surfing the secret website told to me by AMANDA!!! The photos are really artistic and professional, but there are occasional nudity innit. So while going through the 3702 pictures, mom suddenly walked past and saw one of the pictures and half-shouted: 'STACY, IS THAT A BREAST?!'

Oh bother, now my mother thinks i'm looking at professional porn online. Nothing i say will convince her otherwise.

Whatever. At least i wasn't the one who broke the steel ladder. and yet refuse to admit its your own fault!

Oh tmr there's some ACJC drama DEP final year showcase for individual skill and Jen is innit. Unfortunately there's BAND sheesh and double sheesh, so its impossible to hurry down to the other side of SG. Good luck to you then Jenny, break a leg!

Sunday, June 29, 2008

that we become the things we do.

These are the busiest of days.

My mother would be flipping out if she knew how other people are working their asses off while i do all sorts of bizarre things to fill up my weekends.

The makings of a theatre production!

Luki fell down/lost hus balance a few times in the midst of his little dance. mahaha. Seriously, the highlight of the morning.

Checking out the recipe numerous times to idle away our boredom and to get away from feeling pissed. Kelvin was desperately trying to salvage Ainsley's hanged iTOUCH, which died the previous day because of her attempt to download illegal games. tsk tsk.

Mel's ridiculous shoes. It is the 21st century!! Sometimes mel can be extremely fashionable[who am i to talk anyway??] but sometime's she can look like a live relic of the Roman Empire.
Left for luki's house afterthat. blurted out a bit of the emotion in the bus, along with Luki's outburst and mel's insistence. Of course, leng2 didnt take it all too well, as expected. argh.

I cut these mushrooms, and sliced off the tip of my index finger as well. Was never a real talent for cooking.

Our first attempt at making cookies and cream ice cream. It was totally liquid and not properly churned because we didnt own a proper churner. I suggested that we just bung it into the fridge and hope that it solidifes after dinner so we can all have a chunk of it later on. COnsidering that it was the only available option, Mel did it.

Ai yoh.
In luki's room. he doesnt half-mind ten of us invading his private space.

And the coolest electric set ever. Mark is very very good.

PAN OF BLOOD. MUHAHAHHHAHA.

It was the most unhygienic dinner i've ever eaten. We just loped dried up spag onto our plates and more junk, while spilling alot of sauce around the place, which the younger youths stepped on before we had a chance to clean up. Also, there were not enough cups, and we ended up sharing about 6 cups between all of us till Lucy found an assortment of water bottles and bowls that we could drink out of.

See, this is what happens when you get too excited and end up spilling tomato sauce down the front of your white shirt. And because you use your short-tongue accent too much for your own good.

I rock at balderdash because i won. XD
I think it must have been the oily fumes of spagetti sauce and such that compelled us to troop down to simpang bedok at nine plus for some supper. Sheri was tired, so she went home. Prata is good haha.

WHOOPS.
gtg, mom's calling.
