Experiments with comfort food

Isn't it horrifying how food becomes your one and only comfort when it comes to studying for exams? I can't tell you how many times I've walked to the refrigerator, opened it, closed it, opened it again, taken out leftover ratatouille/apple juice/ a fossilized chocolate biscuit after five minutes of study. It's driving me mad!

And just once, I would like my parents to walk into my room while I'm knee-deep in lecture notes and studying, instead of when I'm watching season two of Grey's Anatomy. Once! Just one more week of this recurring nightmare, and hello holidays and Christmas and all that jazz :)

Give me a kiss; can't the headlines capture this?

Do you sometimes get the feeling
that you've been gone for a long time?
Longer than ever
Longer than you ever thought possible.
Well, I know how that feels for sure
Waking up to tears,
wishing for something else to wake up to.

All I know is that I've been gone too long,
and the only reason I know
It's not over,
I've got you honey,
maple syrup sweet
The smell of spring on the table,
I've got you honey,
A love I can't deny.

Thanks to everyone who has been there for me this weekend, when I needed you most. IEspecially mom and dad :) I'm done with the crying and moping! Life goes on and God will surely take care of me.

On borrowed French adjectives

Today I learnt how to say 'Bourgeois' properly. It made studying language variation for Linguistics paper next tuesday slightly more rewarding; I like what it means, the way the word sounds, how it rolls off my tongue.

Sometimes I watch old French movies and am appalled by my apparent lack of an accent. Or, the ghastliness of my Singaporean one.

Currently listening to You, Me & the Bourgeoisie by the Submarines

7 more days before this madness that we call the A levels come to an end!

We are Rockstars

Simply cannot get over this feeling of amazement for getting through this entire week! Mainly math. Thanks to dayna who managed to slap me back to chill state after I went ballisticimus before math paper 1, and Clare who was nice enough to wake up at 5am to wish us all good luck (even if it was just CLB for me... haha!)

Four more intense arts papers. Yesterday's lit-mugging session stayover degenerated to nothingness as per usual, except for Clare, who did a lit essay and wrote her resume for Awfully Choc. Besides that, we drank orangina, played ukulele and played alot of Resident Evil on Wii.

Also discovered my exceptionally 'cui' skills when it comes to playing Mario Kart. What is wrong with me?!?!? I need to play poker now.

Have a (decent) rest of As!

Knee-deep in definite integrals

Oh amelie. I can relate. Tomorrow will probably be the hardest day of my life (so far)... the only thing keeping most of us going is the prospect of never doing math ever again. Ever. Again.

Now I feel slightly better :/

You're a cannibal and I'm afraid I won't get out alive

Nothing cures the exam-sweats like a hot plate of bacon&pepper aglio olio and a movie. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, to be exact. Absolutely digging Kate Winslet's blue-do... a post-A-levels look? Hmmmm.

Graaaahhh. After Friday, we shalt have a bonfire to burn math notes.

burning incandescently

Falling asleep at 4am everyday makes going to school...

a) A trial
b) A total bore
c) An absolute bore
d) All of the above!

Graphs as we know it

Even after reading Women in Love & Tess of the D'urbervilles twice (each!), their plots pretty much seem like the last graph to me.

One long line of overwhelming boring-ness.

Good luck for killer p5 literature tomorrow guys!

Who needs milkshakes when you've got a....

Idk why, I just like moustaches :)

Today was hopelessly boring and everything else apart from schoolwork was endlessly fascinating. 18 more days to prelims. Someone please shot me (with some motivation, at least)

But you're never gonna love me like I need

A little shopping in the middle of exams never hurt nobody.

Cannot wait for this nightmare to be over. Wye Oak (and their latest EP, My Neighbour My Creator) have been good companions the past week. God knows what I would do without these incredible finds, thank you NPR and indiesecretmags :)

Miss you madness

Well if you're asking,
yes I do think back,
back to the days
when it was you and I
and to the special place
we reach for inside.

So you ask,
hey honey, don't you miss it?
A flicker,
here and there,
my love.

Candy-coloured skies
dancing on the green
I remember a time
where people used to dream in reverse

So well,
if you're asking,
yes I do miss you.

I have only one thing to say.

The Office, is just about the best show EVER.

Well, after SKINS and Little Britain and Glee.

Haven't been jamming, doodling and having a life lately with exams. I am just so relieved that ELL and CSE are over (I swear I almost suffered a brain stroke from the 6 hours of worth of papers in sweltering hear) and there's only GP left before holidays. Hell yeah!

And there's cycling tomorrow with the class! A way to get fit and also more a photography trip. Hello polaroids, kodak vintages, blackbird fly and the good ol' diana.

By the way, I'm all for Team Bowersox. Sorry Lee, it was a great run.

That's definitely more than one thing. Goodnight everyone :)

New York I love you, but you're pulling me down.

Outside, Inside,
This is the moon without a tide,
We'll build a fire in your eyes,
We'll build a fire when the cover's getting brighter,
Cold desire makes the moon without a tide

Who would have thought that in my lifetime, one of the most epic NY bands of our era would be coming to Singapore. HELL YES. I'll say, the best thing that has come from the big apple itself since fantastic Broadway musicals & their mass transit railways a.k.a. the Subway.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs (must get their most recent 2009 album!)

Chinese A levels are a joke, and preparing for OP is not any better.

Ah, and kudos to the best and most under-celebrated (in our ridiculously culture-lacking island) day of the year. Happy Halloween!

Not that there's anything much to celebrate, with the ridiculously-bad decorations and lack of fantastic traditions such as dressing up and trick-of-treating.

Hold your head high, heavy heart

You wouldn't think there would be anyone to talk to at 4am in the morning. You're wrong :D

So dead for math. I am over the freaking-out-and-having-unexplainable-fits-of-laughter-or-crying-jaunts-stage, and basking in the warm sunshine of the accepting-fate-stage.

Tomorrow will take care of itself, I always say.

Speaking of tomorrow (or today.), 830 music practice. Eeek.

Have a good time mugging for math/lit/ELL everyone, or if you're maxxie just kill yourself already (I say that with affection.)

Where's your picket fence, love?

The things we forget,
to sing and dance like nobody's watching.
To have a little bit of fun
and dream a little dream,
Enough of those questions

Today's the day to whisk life off its feet
Love irrevocably, darlin',
you won't regret it.

What I need, is a little colour in my life. To do exciting things! (without breaking a couple of limbs, which I probably will.) A hundred balloons, would do just fine.

If you look up 'doom' in my dictionary, you'll find 'promotional exams' printed in big, block letters. School has been plucky but strangely amusing the past few days; albeit the excessive bitching sessions which I can't say was devoid of fun either (!) Canteen conversation and C2's brilliant suggestions!

Yesterday's teppanyaki trip served a good investment; it was 'hello-fine-looking-American/Australian/etc etc-lad' day in town. Stop drooling and try to be cool, lil' wen. Tiara bought this wicked starbucks cup in a shape of a, well... starbucks cup. You shall see it in school on Monday :D

Mandy Moose is officially a giant gob! Tres hilarious.

So ends the 'last day of school'.

Now its back to literature and to tackling ridiculously hard integration questions! Anyone up for studying tomorrow?

I must be dreaming.

Sunday 11:58 pm

Macdonald's sure is stingy with their internet usage. exactly 3 minutes and 20 seconds till the mandatory log-off works.

Was finally temporarily ungrounded to come to the airport to study with my wifey/clueless bitch, Tiara (sorry, jealous GAL somewhere out there). Somehow already exhausted after a couple of hours of ELL. Women in Love is proverbial sewage and T is struggling like mad with it! Sucker.

Tonight Mel and Luki and the rest are out in Bishan doing some serious-prawning and i hate them for having such free lives. Luki just sent me on an MMS of a prawn urgh, don't understand why jokers like them can catch four prawns and i can't even catch one!

27 seconds. Out!

D, feel better, si?

The restless heart syndrome.

The world's gone mexican!

Well these days, there's no other way to put it.

I feel like michael jackson before he passed.

four dosages a day, plus the occasional panadol. and about a zillion lozenges.

Anyway, while people have been toiling in school and what not (half of my class is infected. TOLD YOU, MOE.), home has been dead boring. Really. I have been reduced to nothing but a very skilled couch potato. Even You Me At Six's record, courtesy of patrick's credit card and fueled by ramen, couldn't stop the misery from setting in.

Besides, I've heard the mid-years are back to haunt us in the form of dreaded results. Been receiving messages all day about mine and I'm quite stricken. I did pass chinese tho. Lao shi called to tell me herself, as if absolutely shocked by the outcome! Wow wee, thanks, Lao shi :D C2 again reminded me that it was under her tutelage that I passed... tsk, Modesty!

Oh one more thing.

Plastic Hearts (No not BLG but DPTs :D)

He left me in bedspreads
Tell me how I'm supposed to go on,
Sparse bedsides,
and a hole in my heart.
Still i dream in heist.

Currently inspired by my well-thumbed copy of Sunshine (Robin Mckinley) and a re-reading of Audrey Niffenegger's 'Time Traveller's Wife'.

I'm in love with Constantine and Henry Detamble respectfully, though they are rather bad choices as the resident heroine's love interest. Since one is a vampire whose skin is (apparently) the colour of old mushrooms and quite ugly, and the other time travels unpredictably. No matter. As if my boring life will ever come across such exciting instances.

After exam period has been heavy with a myraid of expensive dinners at expensive places, late-night simpang bedok suppers and waaay too many music practices.

So Jen-fer came up with this brilliant idea of recording an EP encompassing some christian, secular and jazz numbers to put into NLCC's decade-old time capsule (That is another story altogether but we've got time. Apparently we buried a time capsule in Pastor William's backyard in 1999 with all sorts of crap innit that i cant remember and we're opening it up for 20th year anniversary. And so we have to put in new stuff. Thus, the record to signify the birth of the youth band and the years of change :D Symbolic, i know.) The adrenaline rush has been crazy.

Eventually it boiled down to a remix of break free which sounds pretty darn awesome, i must say, this beatles song 'With a little help from my friends' and a self-written jazz piece that is yet to be named! Quite exciting.

Although we shouldn't be taking too many pictures during practise and actually, you know. PRACTISE.

Nick straddling two guitars while i operate the camera, Jen having a bug-eyed moment and lucy - well i don't know what lucy's doing.

whooo cool shot blocked by someone's hand. phfft.

not-so-cool.

we were trying to give the image of 'casual walking' but it didnt work.
Pathetic, yes.

Today was the first official day of school and it sucked. So much work and i'm like 'are you kidding'.

Me: Yiwen you look so different today! you look hawwwt *winks
Amy: Uh huh totally! did you cut your hair?
Yiwen: Oh thanks! But i didnt change anything!
Amy: Oh well you look nice.
Yiwen: OH. I CHANGED MY SHAMPOO.

Love the three musketeers. D'artagan ftw.
Tomorrow is Chinese Orals and i don't feel quite sane. Missed dinner to go home and 'cram' for A-levels and of course i didn't. Well i probably should feel motivated by the promise of my useless chinese mentor C2 treating me to sushi if i pass, but AH HECK.

Playlist of the week include some of the Indigo Girls (power of two), Anberlin (Amsterdam) and some old Flaming Lips numbers. And of course, Michael Jackson.

Midnight! Someone screwed up my internal clock. Goodnight all!

so attractive today

enough said.

I'm so tired

Why Georgia, why?

I can't place it,
this face I'm seeing in my dreams,
It stands out in the crowd,
No, he is the crowd
A throng of sweat and passion
in its own right.

I know we haven't met yet,
Still it seems we've got it right,
Something's going strong,
No, something's going wrong
Cause he walks past
And still I can't place the face
I see in these dreams.

Walk away,
invisible footprints on the sidewalk,
This I will remember

Well said, Joel. I believe he was talking about the holidays, just as the end of the hols for us rapidly approaches. And that ushers in the start of the REAL mid-terms.

Oh holy guacamole.

Someone please contract really really bad swine flu so we have an extra week of holidays please THANKS

When one reaches a stage of being so unprepared, it gets kinda funny. Although i really shouldn't get too comfortable being the queen of slackerdom. Thus the inaugural study session tomorrow at a certain starbucks with the CJC eastsiders (whooo hello sisters.) wherein they will attempt to help me with math! Good luck to them.

Boyyy i really want to spend a whole week at somewhere like Claud's or Lizzeh's. It is really like entering a whole other dimension of craziness, and the absence of studying helps a ton.

Sigheth. Back to the books, everyone.
