Thrifting & Prufrocking & Other things

In summer, I came over
& made you my lover
& do you remember
how you said
show me your bones &
I'll show you mine
so I did

we went to the market
not to buy
but to kiss & see
& the rest of autumn we did nothing
but build birds out of paint & parts
& make sense of nothing at all
one surely must wonder
when it went wrong

Perhaps I was remiss
when I thought
that voices might burst from
my cavity's chest &
turn into song

Summer break is finally here! There's nothing more refreshing than leisurely thrift-shopping & an iced-tea in a forgotten coffee house & of course... the end of sophomore year! Like most 'vacationing' college students, there's a massive list of things to do during this three-month-long holiday, starting with getting a job to cure the state of being perpetually broke. Then there's errands we've been putting off, old school friends to meet, reunions to plan, missed birthdays to be celebrated... but that can wait, if only for a little while.

First, more lazy afternoons like these. Simon Armitage poetry & the Beach Boys on repeat. An ice-cream cone in one hand & a camera in another, a solitary walk, the start of all adventures. All because T.S Eliot once said that 'There will be time / there will be time / to prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet' but then today isn't one of those days. Today, time is yours & yours alone but only if you let it be...

I'll write again soon. Have a wonderful summer

We are Rockstars

Simply cannot get over this feeling of amazement for getting through this entire week! Mainly math. Thanks to dayna who managed to slap me back to chill state after I went ballisticimus before math paper 1, and Clare who was nice enough to wake up at 5am to wish us all good luck (even if it was just CLB for me... haha!)

Four more intense arts papers. Yesterday's lit-mugging session stayover degenerated to nothingness as per usual, except for Clare, who did a lit essay and wrote her resume for Awfully Choc. Besides that, we drank orangina, played ukulele and played alot of Resident Evil on Wii.

Also discovered my exceptionally 'cui' skills when it comes to playing Mario Kart. What is wrong with me?!?!? I need to play poker now.

Have a (decent) rest of As!

I must be dreaming.

Sunday 11:58 pm

Macdonald's sure is stingy with their internet usage. exactly 3 minutes and 20 seconds till the mandatory log-off works.

Was finally temporarily ungrounded to come to the airport to study with my wifey/clueless bitch, Tiara (sorry, jealous GAL somewhere out there). Somehow already exhausted after a couple of hours of ELL. Women in Love is proverbial sewage and T is struggling like mad with it! Sucker.

Tonight Mel and Luki and the rest are out in Bishan doing some serious-prawning and i hate them for having such free lives. Luki just sent me on an MMS of a prawn urgh, don't understand why jokers like them can catch four prawns and i can't even catch one!

27 seconds. Out!

D, feel better, si?

I wanna hold your glaaaand.

Today is gone,
and you're still sleeping tomorrow away,
On a bed of sunshine,
he's wasting away,
But for not too long i pray.

Summer came,
flickers in the sea and the world's still spinning,
just not the way you hoped it would be.
You've got to dance,
dance on the tables honey,
fall in love today.

So.
All night long,
we sang a song.
Crossing the golden sands.

How we enjoy long weekends. School holiday pride!

Saturday had a PW meeting in Toa-freaking-payoh, but HH was nice enough to give me a 45-minute allowance to come in late cause everyone else lived nearby. The rest of it, well you can pretty much guess (or laugh about. or gloat.) what happened. Shall spare you the dramatics and move on.

Music practise which was fun I GUESS although we lamented on the fact that Luki should have been playing drums this week instead of me, which is a major major difference. Luki you can suck it for not coming back earlier LIKE YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO.

Anyway, he's back now, so he can jolly well take over all my scheduled-drum weeks. A small price/punishment to pay you know! Plus a hundred Krispy Kreme donuts, thanks.

MANPUKU is the shizzle. Boo to misers like the older Lee kids duo.

Sunday was mother's day AND my mother's birthday. Double pressure! So it was a day of way to much good food at way to expensive restaurants with way too many nosy relatives.

First meal at the acclaimed hotel. It wasn't that big a deal, just your average chinese food fare. Boring.

However, the bizarre statues/sculpture/artwork of undeterminable nature was rather interesting. brownie points for that!

Spot the difference! Awwww kidding mom!

Another dinner with dad's side. And then a rather imprompto sleepover at jenny's jennifer's!

Lotsa movies and ISLAND CREAMERY

My vunderful drawing of a suburban house on jennifer's tablet where she draws all her wonderful manga drawings like this:
ITS SO PRETTY INNIT. anyway jennifer, don't spaz when you see this up. And only cause you deleted the pic i took of the drawing you did last night on your tablet.

Long story. i though the tablet was like a laptop pad. Top ten loser moments, thanks for pointing it out jen!

Next morning i kept falling back to bed. Blame the constant rain (which to me, is sleep-inducing. I'M A CAT <>DAMN YOU MOE

Regarding jamming on wednesday,

nicholas says:
eh
luki can jam on wed
stacecake! says:
who's that? (emphasizing the fact that he has been absent for really really long)
nicholas says:
a drummer
not from the electric prunes
stacecake! says:
he/she has a weird name
nicholas says:
she
stacecake! says:
LOL
clever
anyway wed i might not be able to jam
nicholas says:
y????!!!!!!!
stacecake! says:
long story
okay cause my school right
nicholas says:
waaaaaaaaaaaaaa
dun your sch la
stacecake! says:
has this night study programme
LISTEN FIRST
nicholas says:
dun go la
oi
stacecake! says:
LISTEN!!!!!
nicholas says:
when finally can
u like that
stacecake! says:
I KNOW YOU ARE JAM-DEPRIVED
SO AM I
LISTEN TO MY STORY FIRST!!!
nicholas says:
ok
fine.
what.

Hilarious stuff. That's what you get after no jazz practise for two and a half months cause your drummer decided to hang out with his 'kor' in myanmar and play with his younger brother.

Anyway, the reason why i probably have to stay back on wednesday for the night study is because mom decided to be charitable and signed up for the CJC SNACK FRIENDS (yes i know. terrible name, much?) and has to stay back till nine. And I, being a filial daughter was thinking of staying back as well.

But we'll figure it out. afterall, its high-time we got back to jamming. :D
MIDNIGHT!

later, folks.

P.S. chinese orals tomorrow. Holy cows.

Wet Skin.

He was there,
and i didn't know,
but i loved him so.

I am exhausted. Weekends are supposed to be a week to catch up with homework and clock in a few hours of sleep, but not in my calendar.

As if the physical exertion on saturday wasn't enough (I am sunburnt to the bone from the bball games.), i went to sleepover at Bex's house. Of course, we don't SLEEP. More so, if Liz decides to come at 12 midnight after landing at the airport from INDIA. Don't ask me!

Slept for barely five hours and had to go to church. I've never really had a hangover, but i bet this is how it feels like. The worst part was the four-hour trek we had AFTER service, going up and down BThill in preparation for mount KK. WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO?!

It was so bad today that in the end, the twenty-five-strong group had withered to a throng of exhausted ten, who actually completed the five flights of (apparently) 1000steps. It was sick! Dinner with mom and jie ains, and then home to nurse my throbbing tootsies.

I need to sleep. Or i shall snap at the certain someone more so than usual during history break tomorrow. DAMN. screw school.

*blog edit at 9:54pm

Oh and please. Stop being such a twat and annoying everyone in the vicinity. Your pathetic attempts to garner attention from us isn't working, thanks.

Go on, make my day.

He believes he's raw passion,
and you can see it,
written in colours,
across the spans of his back.
He says I'm your tracing board,
and while he sleeps
i paint his features to life.

So goodnight,
Because i can't wait
to write him into my songs,
and to etch you in pastel pink.
Goodnight,
The artist comes to life.

Bonjour mes amis!

So on tuesday i finally got around to having some fun. And who best to hang out with but the usual bums! It was a shame i didn't get to hang out with them the last time (was at youth camp! now i remember.) but i bet this time was loads more fun :)

Of course Emilia had to bring the rockband set because she's emi and also very addicted to rockband(as we all were. well, sort off.) so we played rockband till dawn. Literally too. And all the crazy stuff like walking out to grab some mickey D's at five am in the morning and getting scared by some crazy man dancing around the tree.

Top moments include screaming in no pitch whatsoever singing to the old pop tunes, laughing at everyone's ass groove on the couch and knocking out on the cold cold floor at seven in the morning.

So much as it sounds lame, it was absolutely wicked and we all had a fantastic time. XP

A picture of a picture!

Nicole is mad. she tried to kill me!

Yeap so a perfect sleepover was ruined by this ridiculous glass fiasco. We were packing up and shifting back furniture when this glass piece slid off the table and broke. Well, broke is an understatement. More like, shattered into a million pieces. Anyway it was bloody ridiculous because it wasn't even attached to the table in any way. AT ALL.

They charged us 200bucks for it. can you imagine? We were all ready to murder that pompous ass of a man who totally ripped us off. But whatever, crap like that happens.

Slept for a couple of hours before heading off to nick's place. Well i won't say anything here because i can't. But Jennifer was showing her man-face around the table and looked like she was about to jump on someone. Ah she's mad like that. FINISH YOUR SENTENCES.

Need. to. go. new. year. shopping. NEED MORE MONEH. so broke right now that its not even funny.

Finished season 2 and the first ep of season 3 comes out today! Hot indian half-spanish boy (THERE SARAH, HAPPY NOW.) wheeeeeee. Cassie reminds of Stargirl. Waaaay too eccentric and stuff like that.

Soooo. Nothing else to say in this space, except. GOODNIGHT. Till next time.

Let's burn our dreams into the skyline.

Good morning to sweaters and time machines,
I'm struggling from yesterday's hype,
And dwelling in tomorrow's misery.

Lots of things happened this week. Well in short, the sleepover was meant to be doing Mel's scrapbook/birthday present. IT WAS HORRIBLE, BACK-BREAKING, LABORIOUS WORK. We are never ever doing it again. Well in short, Jenny was going Hitler style and we kept quarreling and she kept beating me up because she has the strength of a man and im weak. Nick kept going back to his computer every five seconds and luki disappeared at 5 for his job, so we lost all motivation in continuing.

But after three days, we finally completed it! Hallelujah.

ALSO, angus thongs was brills.

Aaron johnson was smoking hot. Recommended for every girl who likes sexy british accents and guys with the best hair/shoulders/bod in the world. I swear, we were the most noisy group in the cinema. Sarah G even said really loudly at one point of time 'GOD I LOVE HIS SHOULDERS.' felt quite mortified, but felt compelled to sing along when ultraviolet/ever fallen in love started playing.

Definitely one of my favourite movies of the year.

Went jeans shopping for the lads and to finish up mel's scrapbook. Luki and Nick got Levis and we sat around in starbucks being bums YET AGAIN, while waiting for mel. Went to some steamboat place to celebrate mel's birthday and it was awful fun.

MEL BETTER LIKE HER PRESENT OR IMMA KILL HER.

Christmas service was not too shabby. Although the awkward pauses in between sections were well, AWKWARD. eek. Our jazz piece, artfully named 'NANA' by pastor william was quite a fail. Bah.

The skit and mime was aussome. i think everyone did a brilliant job XP The weirdest thing was that we couldnt change out of our costumes or take off makeup while serving food. Which was horrible in my case because i was a drunk, emo punk. But the most hilarious, by far was luki, who was jesus in the skit and also the drummer of our band.

and suddenly a light shone around him, and the drumset levitated a few feet off the ground.

Last night went to mel's place for dinner and watched some old church videos. Holy cows, it was funneh. Nick was such a cute boy last time and now look what happened. AND JEN OMG JEN WAS FUNNEH.

So there's nothing much to say but its off to chocolate-agogo-land now! Wishing everyone a wicked christmas and an aussome new year! See you all in January. :)

Honey, you're the death of me.

Hey everyone!

Its been a really hell of a hectic week with music camp at GM everyday and what not. Since exams were done with, i have been catching up with lots of reading. It is really a splendid feeling, putting down a book after a few hundred pages and feeling accomplished, something impossible to do the past few months. Grab a book everyone!

Oh before anything else is said i'd like to introduce an original reproduction of the Epiphone model 'Wildkat' that was just bought for church (a couple of weeks back..?). It is really, a semi-solid beauty, and a whole lot better than our cracked-up Ibanez model.

Monday had the very first electric guitar lesson with Oops Asia team, and they really made us so... inadequate. The team comprised of Patrick [worship leader/recorder/professional singer/keyboardist], Elliot[drums], Anson[bass], andrew[keys] and Timmy[electric guitar]. All of which went to contemporary music schools and have honours in their respective fields. but professional as they are[and amateurs as WE are], they were really humble and went all out to impart skills and musical knowledge to us.

My class consisted of Royce and myself, YES REALLY SMALL CLASS. But it was brilliant. in a single lesson we were scribbling the pentatonic scales down furtively and playing actual free jazz fill ins!! It felt so good to be able to do that.

The rest of the week were pretty much the same routine of going to church and having lessons, workshops and concert practices. Drum lessons with elliot was mighty interesting, learnt a ton of stuff.

Sleepover pictures, thus the brilliant videos taking with the mac. and stoopid photos.

do you now??
Lizzie with her 50-dollar-rip-off-of-a-wig.
Cyndi Lauper had better hair.

Anyhoos, had a major picture spaz with Lizzeh's Macky. The following just goes to show how we don't really hell care about unglam pictures cause the fun anyway and make you laugh like the hooville people.
Five-string basses never tended to bode well with me.

Ooooh! its a geek!

chug away, this is our night!!

Sometime around two am on the patio, before heading up to the attic to sleep(yeeeah right.)

Lizzie says: The trick to taking jump shots is to not jump. Just flail your arms wildly and spaz alot, and it'll look loads real.

So watched What Happens in Las Vegas and laughed like hell, oooh and aaahed at ashton kutcher (lizzie's new love.) and drank the 1.5litre bottle of coke. I think im banned from their house! Finally fell asleep at four am with lizzie screaming god knows what.

woke up feeling like a really overdue hungover. Was exhausted and lizzie was still screaming [since last night?!] about stop-motion videos and taking bus 80 to church so i think i died for about half an hour there and ascended to the heavens. but god reminded me i had a 1:30 class and rushed back to church.

Thursday's lesson involved a final jam and practise for the 'LIVE AT GM' concert. The Oops Asia team more or less made up look like an absolute joke a little bit like a sham, but its all for the glory of god, si?

Timmy reminds me of a teddy bear. in the form of a lesser know, steve vai, of course. Also a liverpool fan haha!
Elliot as always, was wicked on the drums.
and so were you luki, HAHA.

Well the concert went pretty well. i was using Royce's US fender and it felt... heavenly. If i may say so. It did cost a hefty 900US tho, so it better!

The rest of the service went pretty smoothly but leng was a bit peeved since we didnt pay much attention. CHHHH all jennifer's fault, who did i mention, made a spectacular comeback after being M.I.A from music camp for the whole week?

timmy rules! Kudos to the best guitar player in the world.

Who does not dig elliot's jumper!

Andrew, brilliant at keys and synth. Mel and Lucy really learnt a hella lot from him(although he scared all of us at first, we soon realised he was pretty docile and a nice dude. in fact, he and sheri hit off pretty well. hmmm.)

Anson, wicked bass player.

So just mucking around and taking pictures of kids.

When micah's supposed to have a serious face, he doesn't. Sheesh!

Golly, my hair's cool!

Picture of the century jen a.k.a girl who isn't really my friend cause she neglects telling me the truth of her online journals. phoo.

Hung out with Mel, Ains, Carl and Luki in church and we were the last to leave for some supper at HK cafe at Upper East coast. Had a blast, and by the time ains drove us home it was about 1-ish. Made plans for friday i think... my timing's all screwed up.

Friday had drum class with carl at the studio with alex and edwin (luki neglected to show up. at all!) which was pretty much useless. Mooching around as usual. Met tim, nick and mel afterwards for dinner in town and a movie, which we didnt catch eventually. All we did was trial behind carl while he did some shopping, and let me tell you, for a dude he surely does love shopping.

After a tired dinner at pepper lunch, alex went home and we headed to marina square for some pool(which i suck at, evidently.) but got distracted by the I.D photo booth as usual.

I.D photo number 6 of the year!
Pool at the arcade. Didnt even play a single round, was too busy drinking some overpriced coffee from starbucks and screaming our heads off playing House Of the Dead 4 with Mel. Have i mentioned both of us absolutely SUCK at those Drum-mania machines things? It is embarrasing to have two (ex-)percussionists laughing when the speakers on the game machine announce loudly to half the world 'YOU HAVE FAILED THE BEGINNER'S STAGE' to half the world.

Even with a broken arm, nick still played well! life is waay unfair.
cabbed home with luki ains and mel and talked about stupid things like we always do. i swear luki and mel were about to choke on their own tongues when we started talking about the ice hotel and gay babies.

Saturday had lifenet and then dinner with the family wherein dad said 'Hey lets go get some coffee from Coffeebucks.'

Today was another early morning at church where we played. The songs were screwed up... then the baptism at mel's house in her swimming pool. So now Sheri is baptised yay! I am proud to be the only one in my family to have a saltwater baptism, that is, one at sea. Siloso beach to be exact. It was definitely more exciting then a simple dunk under chlorine-infiltrated water. Was supposed to have ice-cream with mel and the lads but had to return home to um sleep. :)

Tomorrow A-level students finish, which means jennifer is a free person! For now. Yay!
Goodnight all.
