Dream

Moon river,
 wider than a mile

I'm crossing you in style someday
Dream-maker, you heart-breaker
Wherever you're going, I'm going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waiting 'round the bend,
My huckleberry friend,
Moon river and me

I've seen loads of Moon River covers, most mediocre & some even terrible. This is the first that made me tear up (just a little!).

This is an interesting band by the way. The Honey Trees are made up of real-life couple Becky Filip & Jacob Wick, who together create beautiful, dreamy, indie-pop music. The best way I can think to describe their kind of music is this: if music were colours, The Honey Trees' songs would be sepia-toned, with a hint of velvet. The feeling one gets from listening to them or watching their videos is that of nostalgia, almost a longing, for days past... music that seems to have slipped from another time or era, & made itself comfortable here. I'd like to leave them on all day, have some tea, and fall asleep into dream...

On warmer nights

Every few months, due to an unhealthy diet of Macdonalds take out and fat-laden prata suppers (also the lack of exercise, but who's keeping score?), I catch the flu. When you're rolling around in bed in a feverish fit at 4am in the morning, the only thing to do is calm down and READ. Thanks to ms. Hepburn and also Sylvia Plath's mildly disturbing Bell Jar, which helped me through a pretty hectic night.

On a slightly unrelated note; The fact that university tutorial teachers don't give tuppence if you show up for class or not, gives little satisfaction when you skive off school. Oh delinquency of Junior College days, how I miss you! Oh and I'm proud to say that I only took 3 hours to write a 200-word commentary on music and culture for a particularly annoying critical writing course. Whoohoo, procrastination and underachievement.

And now, for some more 30 rock!

The most terrible impulse to do something

' What is needed in order to really become a star is an extra element which God gives you or doesn't give you.

You're born with it.You cannot learn it.

God kissed Audrey Hepburn on the cheek and there she was. '

The Great Audrey Hepburn Tribute

'Audrey Hepburn: At midnight, I'll turn into a pumpkin and drive away in my glass slipper...

Gregory Peck: And that will be the end of the fairy tale.'

To travel to Paris, to wear perfume, and to listen to jazz

'It's not enough to educate us anymore, Mrs Walters!
You've got to tell us why you're doing it!'

It appears that I got my Carey Mulligan filmography thoroughly mixed up: I watched Wall Street first, followed by the poignant film Never Let Me Go, where she fitted perfectly into the role of a displaced Cathy Glass and lastly, An Education. It turned out to be for the better; her first major role as the bright but sheltered 16-year-old schoolgirl swept away by a suave gentleman was one of the best I'd ever seen.

Captured in the sleepy and old-fashioned English suburb of Twickenham, the film explores the true importance of an academic education as compared to, as Peter Sarsgaard so charmingly puts it, an education in the 'University of Life'. Mulligan's rather anachronistic character of Jenny puts the thoughts of thousands of A-level students together on the screen flawlessly, and more importantly exposes the restrictive societal mindset held by the working-class in 1960s England.

However, what was most impressive was the way the movie ended. While some may find it extremely unsatisfying (and ultimately, a betrayal in morals to the first ninety percent of the film), I found that the ending expressed finding comfort and a satisfaction for the simpler things instead of settling for living in a fantasy. Ambition is all well and good, but in the end, you can never truly have a shortcut in life.

Gosh it feels like I'm writing a literature essay here. So trust me, it's a movie you can't miss. Although no one could ever replace Ms. Hepburn, I'm personally really glad that Carey Mulligan was casted as Eliza Doolittle in the My Fair Lady remake. Definitely something to look forward to!

I sold flowers; I didn't sell myself.

'I know your head aches, I know you're tired, I know your nerves are as raw as meat in a butcher's window. But think what you're trying to accomplish. Think what you're dealing with. The majesty and grandeur of the English language, it's the greatest possession we have. The noblest thoughts that ever flowed through the hearts of men are contained in its extraordinary, imaginative, and musical mixtures of sounds. And that's what you've set yourself out to conquer Eliza. And conquer it you will.'

Professor Henry Higgins
in My Fair Lady
Played by Rex Harrison

I watched this three-hour musical again after doing an extract from Pygmalion (Bernard Shaw, 1939) during Literature enrichment a couple of days back. It must prove to be somehow useful for ELL... I hope. No matter, we all need our breaks, don't we? After all, it was Eliza Doolittle who first declared that she 'could have danced all night'!

(then again, she also said 'Come on, Dover, move yer bloomin' arse!' This could be a nudge from the Great Audrey herself for me to start mugging. Intensely.)

Ippudo yesterday with obscene gang was delish :) And also the record-spam, where Clare and I chanced upon a Fleet Foxes EP for only a tenner! It was rather exhilarating. So ends my 3am rant.

Goodnight everyone, continue to study hard!

She had a voice that made you listen

You can say that again.

Someone should really print this on a shirt

'You really are the smuggest and most hateful man'

Vicky-T or Leighton Meester weren't the first ones to wear silver eyeshadow! Now I know.

Watched How To Steal A Million where the leading lady was paired with Peter O' Toole. I must say, he was quite charming. In the words of Audrey 'Tall, blue eyes, slim, quite good-looking...'

Audrey Hepburn, bold silver make up, and House of Givenchy serves another marvellous film. Even if it is, about the greatest heist in French history.

My Huckleberry friend

'Most people think of Audrey Hepburn as regal.
I like to think of her as spunky.'
Gregory Peck

Well said, Mr Atticus.

Be prepared for an Audrey Hepburn tribute guys. I think she pretty much deserves it :)

You are of 5-cent lemonade stands

Two kids in Love (in a lake of ice-cream)

Sunny days don't get any better
We'll lie in the backyard and drink lemonade from the jug,
five-cent lemonade from the jug
Reveling in unsophisticated
behaviour
Oh, so lovely

These days don't get any better
You painted my front lawn with the colours of your eyes,
too many colours in your eyes
Well, like it matters
I've always liked the mess
we made of things

I think it's safe to say,
We're safe from boredom forever
I know it's unconventional
But this labyrinth it's too lovely
to throw away
What a waste it would have been
to throw it away

Sunny days don't get any better,
If the heat gets up, honey,
let's have a dip
in that lake of ice-cream
Reveling in a lake of ice-cream
Dream,
You and I.

21st July

Cheers to lemon slice eyes, scribbling in leather bound notebooks and of course, reveling in unsophisticated behaviour :)

I've been watching too many Audrey Hepburn movies these days, and am halfway through My Fair Lady (linguistics research, is my excuse!) There's something magical about Audrey's acting that can make a bad day turn marvelous, in a couple of hours.

Have yet to start revision for prelims! So I suppose watching movies or reading Margaret Atwood novels can wait for a couple of months. Or can they?

Goodnight everyone :)

love like a sunset

Acres
Visible horizon
Right where it starts and ends
When did we start and end?

Acres
Visible illusion
where it starts it ends
Love like a sunset.

I know I've got a ton of things to blog about... including SYDNEY HILLSONG CONFERENCE 2010 :)))) Life for the past couple of weeks have been a jumble of book fairs, old records, knick-knacks and humphrey bogart movies.

My lovely new cup. I swear I will drink from no other.

I watched this movie a couple of days ago and it was pure magic. William Holden is hilarious, and audrey of course, was sensational.

!
!!
!!!

Coming back to Singapore has been bizarre, depressing, but strangely, feels a lot like settling back into a comfortable nook.

Sydney in the next post :)

i took my lucky break and i broke it in two

I eat ice-cream for breakfast

Have been obsessed with this duo since a couple days back. And since people have been asking me why I haven't been putting in contacts the past couple weeks/months, this is the answer to whyyyy!

Love it when they dress as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn! Everything is lovely! Brooke White from AI7 is the blondie.

Find out more from http://thegirlswithglasses.com/

Some shots from History night last Friday! It was brilliant. Our class won overall (i think) and got 20 free GV movie passes!

Teehee I couldn't resist. Not when the the Gray Blazer walks in.

Barney Stinson suits up. Kieran's dream!

And Nick's party after. Kieran's cool crib, stealing cupcake ribbons and warm beer, fail at pool. Happy birthday!

Today the lads had NAFA. Rather exciting event! Hope everyone who didn't pass this time will do so next week!

And there is this ridiculous CCA rubbish on Friday which I don't want to go for. But PW results! Despise these little important decisions life makes us choose.

Hopelessly behind in math. There are bigger things in life, just so you know guys.

If you've got an impulse, let it out

This is the time
to be airborne in lofty dreams.
For warm kisses
and poet's triumph,
Summer.

This is the time
for lawns and lemonade.
Lazy ideas
and grass scent,
Summer.

Today is the day,
No time for laters,
next years, maybes.
Cause you know
if I had to pick a day
it'll be now dear,
spent in Summer heat.

'I don't want to own anything till I find someplace that feels like home. I don't know where that is, but I know how it feels like. It's like...'

Holly Golightly, played by Audrey Hepburn
Breakfast at Tiffany's

Cat! Caaat!

Holly Golightly: He's all right! Aren't you, cat? Poor cat! Poor slob! Poor slob without a name! The way I see it I haven't got the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other. We just took up one day by the river. I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I'm not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It's like Tiffany's.

Holly: You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues?

Holly: No. The blues are because you're getting fat and maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?
Paul: Sure.
Holly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany's. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then - then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name!

George Peppard is probably the hottie of the 20th century. Of course, besides Gregory Peck & Humphrey Bogart.

Audrey Hepburn though, will forever the most beautiful woman in the world. There are no words to describe how much I love Breakfast at Tiffany's, cats, and crossiants! And also how the Holly character is so much like Cassie from Skins, or rather, the other way round.

Who said the oldies were dull?
