Life on the Nickel

Things that have made me very very happy of late

1. Heaps of books: Shakespeare, Whitman, Eugenides, Kundra and Edgar Allan Poe
2. Long lunches at nice restaurants with people I've missed.
3. Live music at interesting places
4. Naps.
5. Eight seasons of Grey's Anatomy and four of 30 rock
6. Jones the Grocer and their multitude of teas
7. She & Him's Christmas album
8. My Tumblr dashboard
9. My Gold Motel Package that traveled across the world thrice in six months. It's no longer summer, but the tunes are still good
10. Exams are over, school is out for six weeks!

In an exceptionally good mood. I can take on the world! Happy thanksgiving and turkey gobbling to everyone!

The European Experience & What's Left.

Oh Ladurée macaron house, oh the Spanish Steps. Oh the museums, the long walks by the River Seine, juicy frankfurters and frothy beer, the wearing of scarves and coats and beanies and boots in chilly weather.

This is what's left of you; postcards from far away, and a million memories.

Make. Stuff.

When life gives you lemons, squeeze them in people's eyes!

Well, all I've got to say is there's bigger things in life than this drama. But still, you can't help but ask why. Why the lies? Why put yourself in that position? Why pretend?

And hey you, you're off to a brand new start from here and it's all uphill.

So this is me, us, moving on! There are new things to do everyday and we are wasting ourselves away in this clutter. Midnight! Off.

Blow bubbles with their gum, take photographs for fun, have fun.

Note to self;

1. Get magnetic poetry, well, because our fridge magnets all need a little spice.
2. Buy dress for Daniel&Yvonne's wedding this Friday, get shoes and accesories, get currently-ghastly-and-amazingly-out-of-shape-hair CUT.
3. Send letter to Mel. Pronto.
4. finish math prelim papers Ignore any form of homework, coursework, projects till coming Sunday night.
5. Buy Ukelele and form ukelele band with nick glascow. Utmost importance.

Also, SKINS fever is all the rage! Half of the literature workshop today was spent having passionate talks on Tony Stonem, Effy, and the like. And well Max, as a response to your question, here are my top five favourite SKINS characters from across the seasons.

5. Effy Stonem a.k.a Kaya Scodelario

The only character to surf through all four seasons and still have viewers lapping the opal-eyed, freckled girl's scenes.

And she's smokin'. I guess that's reason enough for the lads.

4. Maxxie Oliver a.k.a Mitch Hewer

Skins portrayal of gay characters remind me very much of 'Perks of Being A Wallflower's Patrick. So, Mitch isn't a dangerously fantastic singer or actor, but by jiminy, he can DANCE. Doesn't hurt that he is sex on legs. (Teehee)

3. Freddie Mclair a.k.a Luke Pasqualino

'He was a sk8r boi, she said see you later boy.' You're good enough for me, Freddieeee. R.I.P.

2. Naomi Campbell a.k.a Lily Loveless

Two hopelessly hilarious names, crazy hippie clothes and a mess of white blond hair later, you get Naomi. From the time she gets Cook to show everyone the oh-so-lovely tattoo in the first episode, till she cries her heart out during the drug-episode with Sophie, there's not one moment you stop loving her.

That, and the Naomily couple *winks

1. Cassie Ainsworth a.k.a Hannah Murray

The psychotic lass. Says 'Wow' and 'Oh, Wonderful!' alot. Beautiful, but in more ways than meets the eye.

More likely you remember her as the 'Girl who never f*cking eats' (for three days so she could be lovely!). In all four seasons, there has been no other character quite like Cassie, whose eccentricities make her the very embodiment of a modern day, Jerry Spinelli 'Stargirl', or Truman Capote's Holly Golightly.

So, boo to Scotland and bulimia and trying to kill yourself over pathetic sodding Sid, we want Cass back!

SKINS FOR LIFE.

Today's Lit WS was bullpoopy. Thank God I had a reasonably sane group. Out with Suat and Kai later on! Lost jackets and chasing Jack Neo+wife around Cineleisure (I kid you not.)! Fun times.

Finally meeting SRAH G tomorrow. Stoked for AliceInWonderland and also Marche<3

Dear Time Traveller,

Sad, sad so we are together,
now if you'll please be satisfied with me

8:30 on the tick-tock counter,
black suit in the morning rush hour,
So what,
So what he says to her,
you never believed in us,
Lovers will be the same always.

(but for now we are young let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see)

Photos are always the best way to conclude a massive hurdle! Christmas '09.

These are the probably, the best pictures of the year.

my aussome parents where I get my aussome genes from.

And you can see the aussome bloodline here (oh snap. One more 'aussome' in this post and I have officially evolved into a female-asian-barnabus-stinson.)

Being in a new and aussome fantabulous school this year has only resulted into a lengthening of the already-lengthy Christmas Card List.

Thus, if anyone finds their cards filled with illegible scrawl, the rough message is simply MERRY CHRISTMAS I love you and don't forget to leave the milk and cookies out this year if you want your presents :)

It has become, a ritual.

And in return, thanks to Max, Kai, Clare & Nick (even though yours disappeared somewhere) for the wicked cards.

I know there's this whole 'giving is better than receiving', but seriously, who are we kidding. EVERYBODY loves to get something, no matter how unnecessary it may be. So thank you everyone for the clothes, books, accesories, bags & money (this one is mostly for the parental units Doesn't it scream of the good ol' days? Mark-o gets a massive 'A' for effort in decorating Mr. Gingerbread man :)

I swore I would never eat it but it looked so scrumbolicious, I settled for taking lots of photos of it, and then polishing it off.

Thus ends the Christmas season, but that doesn't mean the fun has to end.

Tomorrow I'm off for the TRUE seasonal holiday! KL with friends a.k.a the best lot of people there is. The six-hour drive will be a good time to catch up some good music (hello, Noah & The Whale. and listening to some of the Crooked Vultures never hurt nobody) and watch Glee! again.

Because no one ever gets sick of listening to Lea Michele belt out 'Don't Rain on My Parade' in true-blue showchoir fashion.

Goodnight everyone, and have a good one.

I'm on my way to believing.

Dear Life,

I hope I'm not asking for much, but the following is the list of things I want to do. I hope somewhere out there you're listening, because it seems like lately I've been losing control of you.

What I would like to do is to wake up tomorrow morning and feel great. Sit at home under a fluffy duvet and watch Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady for the billionth time. To sit in a coffeehouse all day sipping overpriced ice-blends and read a good Margaret Atwood poetry collection. To take more walks to nowhere whilst listening to a bizarre mix of The Clash and Sex Pistols, with some Regina Spektor thrown in. To actually laugh out loud and love something worthwhile. Carry a guitar around and sing for strangers, because sometimes that's what life is all about.

That's what you're all about.

To have someone to share all of this with.

So dear Life, I usually abhor talking in cliches, but don't forget to remember me.

Colour my life with the chaos of trouble.

Haven't you heard?
The sky's the limit
and we can make it or blanket,
the stars put on a show for you tonight.
Pour me a glass of that love
beneath the paris skies.

Post-promo week was enjoyable. Ironically more tiring than EVER, but hey, I'll take it over mugging any day.

1. MOTHER TONGUE CLINICS. - one word, ewww. Well I guess I should have seen this coming, from the E grade during MYEs and the S grade for EOYs. Funny thing was that when all the chinese failures were asked to assemble at the flag pole today, 90% of SACians were there. Some things, never change.

2. IT'S A CAT JOB. - started going to my Uncle and Aunt's house to help them feed their cats while they go off to USA last week. It is not easy, at all. Considering the massive size of the bungalow alone and the uncountable places, it takes eons to find all six cats. Even then, they are too lazy to lift their stomachs off the grounds and lumber over to their bowls. Diet of grilled prawns and smoked salmon, what do you expect?

3. THE ICE-CREAM DEBACLE. - Met Clauds at Eastwood while she was walking Sparks and we stopped by Ice Cream Gallery for, well, ice-cream. Two minutes later, Sparks had knocked over both our ice-cream cones and we were laughing our butts off. Stupid but irrestibly cute Jack Russells

4. UNEXPECTEDLY AWESOME JAZZ CONCERT - Henderson Trio came to town, so Nick Luk and I got cheap, nosebleed seats just the night before. Dinner turned out to b a dismal affair, when I dropped an entire tray of food in Soupsoon, and we left the tickets on the table, only to turn back and get the staff to burrow through their trash to find it. Turned out to be really great, since they let us move up to frontrow seats!

5. FIRST OF THE HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS. - Well pictures of pam's party are all over fb. Highlights included the not-so-slutty-nurse-costume, trying to make 'LOVE' with our bodies (HAHAHAH you'll see why) and Nat being retarded, as per usual :D

My guitar becoming a prop for the night

HAHA CLARE!

testing our the fake-jump theory.

6. NEW HIDEAWAY. -jammed all day on Saturday & Sunday at Fontaine's. We need to get a camera, pronto (too bad none of us are all up for photos). Mom got into a hissy fit cause I came back pretty late, or early. COME ON, its post promos!

7. HARD-ROCK-IN' CAFE. - interview yesterday. Tiara picked me up from Tanah and her dad drove us to Orchard's HardRock branch (with Suat and Kieran in tow). The place is AMAZING. Guitars from Nine Inch Nails, Steve Vai and Joe Satrini... mindblowing. And the signed autographs of the Beatles on the walls. Hope everything works out :D

8. PROMOTIONAL RESULTS. - nerve-wrecking, to say the least. Got GP back today and it was pretty good... but I don't have a good feeling about tomorrow. Whatever happens, happens.

9. PW. - SHINGZ. I hate hate hate PW almost screamed during the four-hour stint of Oral presentation today and discussion. It doesn't help when half your team mates don't come up with good ideas. Sometimes feel like you're having a conversation with yourself. LAST LEG!

10. um okay out of things to say but '10' seems like a nice enough number to stop.

Catching up on GG, HIMYM and Grey's. Also watching too many Oh! Mikey vids, and laughing alone in my bedroom like a maniac. Well life's is hectic for now and the pressure can bust a pipe, but we hold it together.

Wordy post! Good luck for tomorrow, everyone :D

Early Morning Ramblings

Me: ARGH there is never any damned toilet paper in toilets! Especially in the morning!
Amethyst: Nehmind Stace, just shake dry!
Me: o_o

Me: Max, can i ask you a question?
Max: (*sees look on my face) What? Spit it out before you burst.
Me: Do guys um, shake dry?
Max: You mean like, after we pee?
Me: (*quite uncomfortable and surprised by this point of time) You mean you're familiar with the term 'shake dry'?!
Max: There's alot of things you don't know about guys. Like how rarely we use toilet paper.

Holy canoli. How naive can I get?! Please tell me that Max doesn't speak for the entire male population. I am, as of now, shocked and rather disgusted.

Just another day in the life of yours truly, bite-size.

P.S. your postcard arrived in the mail last night Liz. The one with the union jack splashed across it (how very un-typical) but it was a lovely surprise. You came back before it did, tho! Tell me your add again and we shall continue our oh-so-irregular letter writing :D

Yes Virginia, No virginia.

This is a song for you
but i need you to close your eyes.
Sometimes you make everything
make sense when it doesn't need to be.

So as i said,
This is a song
from the last of the small-town musicians.
I give you my heart in my hands,
take it.
but you leave none.

Pieces of me,
You and I,
will always be unfinished business.

Well hello.

Today during class, i drafted out my letter to Santa Claus. Which resulted in a lot of laughing from me and mozzie. We got our first term 3 indirect-scolding from Ms Chua! Ah how i miss it.

Anyway don't ask me why I'm drafting out the letter to Santa in July. The Christmas spirit is alive! Mozzie says she's never really celebrated Christmas before and I was beyond shocked. Thus, it is our job to introduce her to the traditions of Santa-letter-writing and presents and too much honey-baked ham.

So here's the letter.

Dearest Santa,

Greetings from Singapore! This year, I'm writing with two other great friends of mine, Yiwen and Amethyst (but you can just call us the three musketeers). Its a bit mad to be drafting a letter in July, but I think Yiwen needs alot of practise. Thus, the necessity to start teaching the art of Christmas letter-writing starts now!

Of course, we have been marvellously good girls this year(Well, so far. Six months is an awfully long time), which i understand is some minimal criteria we must meet in order to um, ask gracefully for gifts. I sincerely hope that instead of merely sending a computer-generated letter back from the North Pole, we actually get what we ask for.

We ask for good promotional grades (okay so maybe we're a bit old for this. But whatever.) so we can all spend another year cramming our face off next year together and graduate into successful lives, whatever that means. Of course, in the name of good morals, we wish for world peace, an end to all civil unrest in Israel and here's to no more world hunger.

Oh. It wouldn't hurt to throw in a billion dollars. Of course being the experienced and frequent letter writer that i am, i get the 50% cut, yes?

Anyway, have a pleasant July-December!

Love,
Athos, Porthos and Aramis

SNAZZY, yes?

So Tiara might have H1N1 and i hugged her yesterday and we also agreed to get married/merit but that is another matter altogether. YAY! Matthias, a J2 counsellor also got it, so CJC is officially infected.

All i can say is: ABOUT TIME.

Chinese orals was pleeeeh. Although i HAVE to thank my cube sister for being such an awesome chinese tutor. You have trained me to reasonable standard my friend.

Now, off to listen to some Jamie T and Coldplay's Prospekt's March (thanks to Mr. Nick Glascow for supplying the EP). I have to call Claudia.
